Sinopse:
Cherbourg, 1957. Guy Foucher (Nino Castelnuovo) is a 20-year-old who was brought up by his godmother and works as a car mechanic. He is in love with Geneviève Emery (Catherine Deneuve), a 17-year-old teenager who helps her widowed mother in the family business, an elegant but unprofitable umbrella shop. Geneviève loves him too, but her mother thinks she's too young to marry and doesn't see how Guy can maintain a family. He is called up for military service and she discovers she is pregnant. The dilemma arises: wait for her beloved to return or move on?
