Todos conhecem Camilo, ninguém conhece Jorge

A arte o que é da arte, à loucura o que é da loucura

Sabe-se pouco sobre Jorge, primeiro fruto do amor proibido de Camilo e Ana, que plantou a robínia e que, mesmo em adulto, “empoleirava-se em seus galhos para tranquilizar-se com a sua flauta e dali via os dias passar”, escreve Stefanie Gil Franco, curadora da exposição, no catálogo homónimo que a acompanha e no qual podemos encontrar a réplica dos 300 desenhos.

“Toda a informação que encontrava é que ele era o 'amado filho louco' de Camilo e Ana Plácido, mais nada além disso. Todo o mundo conhece Camilo, mas ninguém conhece Jorge”, comenta a investigadora, “e muito menos Nuno” -nascido um ano depois de Jorge e seis depois de Manuel, filho de Ana Plácido com Pinheiro Alves, que alguns autores apontam que será também filho de Camilo, embora o próprio nunca o tenha assumido como tal.

Atualmente investigadora de pós-doutoramento do Programa de Desenvolvimento Humano Integral da Universidade Católica Portuguesa e investigadora do Centro de Estudos de Comunicação e Cultura da mesma instituição, Stefanie Gil Franco especializa-se no estudo da interceção entre arte e loucura, no qual mergulhou durante o mestrado, ainda no Brasil. “Durante o século XX, a doença mental vai sendo reconfigurada praticamente a cada década, com outras classificações e compreensões medico-psiquiátricas, mas também sociais”, reflete a curadora. A doença mental é uma questão psiquiátrica, a loucura é uma questão social – que encontramos na poesia, na música, no teatro, na arte como um todo. A loucura possibilita pensar de forma muito mais ampla a própria doença mental”.

The Common Ocean Interdisciplinary Workshop

The Católica Doctoral School organises the Common Ocean Interdisciplinary Workshop, on the 16th May 2023.

Bearing in mind the increasing importance of interdisciplinarity within research, “The Common Ocean” seeks to bring together all the research work being developed at Católica having the Ocean as the common denominator.

PhD and post-doctoral students, as well as researchers from Católica, interested in participating in this workshop may submit abstracts derived from research conducted within any of the UCP research centers, provided that the topic is related to the theme “Oceans and Humankind: A transdisciplinary solution to Global Challenges”

Submit your abstract (with a maximum of 500 words) and a brief biography (with a maximum of 150 words) by 31 March 2023 to s-mermida@ucp.pt.

The Postdoctoral Program: Integral Human Development, of Católica Doctoral School organizes the Conference "Vivere per fare vivere: futuro umano e bene comune", on April 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the Exhibition Hall.

Donatella Abignente, professor of Moral Theology at the Pontifical Faculty of Theology of Southern Italy, Section of St. Louis, Naples, and coordinator of the area of Theology of Christian Life, is the guest speaker for this lecture.

Eutopos Conferences "Cognition, Culture and Creativity: the Search for Beauty" with Peter Hanenberg

Peter Hanenberg, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at Universidade Católica and Dean of Católica Doctoral School, is the guest speaker at the Eutopos Conference "Cognition, Culture and Creativity: the Search for Beauty", organised by Brotéria in partnership with CADOS.

Taking place on 19 October, from 7pm to 8.30pm, the session will be held at Brotéria in Lisbon and proposes two paths in the search for beauty: one that looks at the cultural nature of its meaning and another that traces the intersection between perception and conception.

This session is part of a cycle of three conferences centred on the topics of the "search for good agriculture", the "search for beauty" and the "study of what helps us progress in our moral life as a result of community involvement."

Participation in this event is free.

Conference - "Why Does Democracy Need Participation?"

As part of the Cycle "The Social Question in Debate", a seminar organized by the fellows of the 3rd cohort of the Post-Doctoral Program in Integral Human Development, a conference will be held on May 29, between 3pm and 4.30pm, on the importance of participation in democracy, which will feature a speech by Professor Isabel Vieira, followed by a brief discussion with the audience.

All interested parties are invited to attend the conference, which will take place in the Exhibition Hall, and no prior registration is required.
