On January 23rd, Universidade Católica Portuguesa and Serralves will launch the exhibition "Mãos sobre a cidade. Investigações artísticas no meio urbano", at the Fundação Amélia de Melln Gallery, at the Católica headquarters in Lisbon.

The opening ceremony will be attended by the Minister of Culture, Pedro Adão e Silva, the President of Católica, Isabel Capeloa Gil, and the President of the Serralves Foundation, Ana Pinho.

The exhibition presents a set of works by Portuguese and international artists represented in the Serralves Collection that focus on contemporary urban reality, investigating the physical, economic, social and cultural processes that mould life in the city.

Developed specifically for the four campi of the University, the exhibition begins at the Lisbon campus, occupying the Fundação Amélia de Mello Gallery with a collective and dense nucleus that echoes the profusion and diversity of artistic manifestations related to this theme.

Comprising drawing and collage, sculpture and photography, street posters, and sound and video pieces, Mãos sobre a cidade brings together works from the late 1960s to the present day, covering the representative period of the Serralves Collection. Works by Ana Hatherly, Ana Santos, André Cepeda, Dayana Lucas, James Lee Byars, Mauro Cerqueira, Oficina Arara, Pierre Huyghe, Tacita Dean, VALIE EXPORT and Yonamine are presented.

The exhibition also includes the presentation of works by the artists E. M. de Melo e Castro, Gordon Matta-Clark and Pedro Barateiro, which will be inaugurated during February at the Católica Regional Centres of Braga, Viseu and Porto.

This exhibition, curated by Joana Valsassina, is the 3rd initiative organised as part of the University's membership on the Serralves Foundation's Founding Board and is part of the Serralves Collection's Itinerant Exhibitions Programme, which aims to make the Foundation's collection accessible to diverse audiences in all regions of the country.

John Paul II University Library hosts "Echoes of Time" exhibition

Tuesday, November 07, 2023 - 09:00

Biblioteca Universitária João Paulo II | UCP | Lisboa - Sede

João Paulo II University Library is organising the exhibition "Echoes of Time" in collaboration with Miguel Correia, Professor at the Faculty of Law - Lisbon School of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

Miguel Correia, artist and curator of Echoes of Time, says that "human time is as fleeting as a breath. A sigh in the void. Perhaps what endures most of our time are its echoes. Lost sounds that persist in hovering in the infinity of existence. A moment, a look, a feeling".

The exhibition is a retrospective of Miguel Correia's work in three areas: painting, drawing and photography. These perspectives are united by time.

Echoes of Time is the artist's second solo exhibition. The first, "Structure / Dynamics", took place in 2006 at the Oporto Regional Council of the Portuguese Bar Association.

The exhibition opens on 7 November at the João Paulo II University Library and will be on show until 7 May 2024.
