The Institute for Political Studies of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa is organizing the 31st edition of the Estoril Political Forum 2023, from June 26 to 28, and will be attended by the President of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Isabel Capeloa Gil.
This event, which has the high patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic, has as its theme "Rebuilding Democratic Consensus at home and abroad".
The International Meeting of Political Studies has been held since 1993, and annually brings together academics, students, politicians, businessmen, opinion leaders and journalists in an open debate on political science and international relations, providing an opportunity for networking.

The Institute for Political Studies presents its first Winter School in Political Theory, with the support of Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, between the 14th and 15th of March (Thursday afternoon and Friday), at the Sociedade de Geografia de Lisboa.
The Winter School is aimed at all PhD, Masters and MA students and aims to create a space for debate in political theory.
The sessions take place at the Lisbon Geographical Society and are conducted in Portuguese.
The Winter School will be free of charge for selected students.
Places are limited.

O Governo de Luís Montenegro fez um sprint de medidas nos primeiros 100 dias de vida para compensar a fragilidade numérica de deputados na Assembleia da República, concluem politólogos e economistas consultados pelo ECO.

“Os 100 dias ficam marcados pela tentativa de apresentar resultados rapidamente”, uma vez que este Governo está “consciente de iminentes eleições, ou seja, está muito preocupado com a opinião do eleitorado e muito preocupado com a gestão do espaço entre o PS e o Chega”, indicou ao ECO André Azevedo Alves, professor do Instituto de Estudos Políticos (IEP) da Universidade Católica.
Para compensar a “fragilidade” de uma maioria relativa de 80 parlamentares (78 do PSD e 2 do CDS), apenas mais dois do que o PS, teve de mostrar “grande ambição para resolver problemas estruturais, setoriais como na área da Educação ou da Saúde”, sublinhou Paula Espírito Santo, investigadora do Instituto de Ciências Sociais e Políticas da Universidade de Lisboa (ISCSP). “Era inevitável, porque apesar de ter vencido, a AD ficou a dois deputados do PS e governa porque não existiu uma maioria de esquerda, senão não estava a governar”, acrescentou André Azevedo Alves.

O calendário tornou-se (mais uma vez) uma peça determinante no xadrez da política portuguesa, tendo desta vez Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa na posição central. As eleições presidenciais de 2026 condicionam o espaço de manobra e só há uma certeza: se o Orçamento do Estado for viabilizado, o Governo tem o seu futuro garantido pelo menos até 2026, mesmo que a proposta orçamental referente a esse ano fique pelo caminho.

Na mesma linha, André Azevedo Alves, professor do Instituto de Estudos Políticos da Universidade Católica, afirma que “o Presidente da República está refém das próprias decisões no passado”, considerando que “não tem de convocar, mas será difícil face ao que tem sido o perfil da sua atuação que não convoque“.
