Opening session of the 2024/2025 academic year

The Faculty of Theology is holding an opening session on 27 September at 11.30am in the Isidro Alves Auditorium at the Braga Regional Centre.

The session will include a round table entitled ‘Imagining theology’ and will be moderated by Cátia Tuna and Rui Pedro Vasconcelos, as well as the participation of Isabel Varanda, Joaquim Félix de Carvalho and Sérgio Leal.

All the Faculty's students, staff and teachers can watch the broadcast in the Exhibition Room (2nd Floor of the Library Building) on the Lisbon campus and in room EC018 (Corticeira Amorim Auditorium) on the Porto campus.

Campaign to collect books for Mozambique

In the context of the Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP), there are still difficulties in accessing the specialised literature needed for theological formation.

In response to a request from the Archdiocese of Beira in Mozambique, the Faculty of Theology is launching a campaign to collect new and used books on philosophy, theology and related areas to help build up a robust bibliographic collection. This gesture of communion and solidarity will be sent to the Interdiocesan Seminary of Beira.

The collections will run until 12 March:

  • Braga - Serviços de Escolares  (Campus Camões 4710-362 Braga)
  • Porto – Mireille Arrifana (Rua de Diogo Botelho, 1327 4169-005 Porto)
  • Lisboa – Ana Alva (Palma de Cima 1649-023 Lisboa)

«Manuel Sérgio trouxe o humanismo ao desporto»

A Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) promoveu hoje uma homenagem ao pensamento e o legado científico de Manuel Sérgio, a que se associou o Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude (IDPJ).

José Carlos Lima, coordenador do Plano Nacional de Ética no Desporto, referiu que Manuel Sérgio, com o seu pensamento e o seu percurso universitário, “trouxe o humanismo ao desporto”.

“Provocou-nos para uma reflexão superior do desporto”, elevando-o da sua dimensão física para um plano “mais reflexivo, mas também mais humano”, acrescentou o responsável.

A Faculdade de Teologia da UCP colabora desde 2015 com o IPDJ, através da Cátedra ‘Manuel Sérgio – Desporto Ética e Transcendência’.

Theology Conferences 2024

The Faculty of Theology of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa is organising the 2024 Theology Conferences on the theme "Work in a globalised world: new configurations and new challenges", in collaboration with the Diocese of Porto and the Brotherhood of Clerics.

The conference will take place at the Porto Regional Centre from 5 to 8 February and will be coordinated by Abel Canavarro.

The topical nature of the theme and the complexity of the issues to be addressed by the speakers will provide an opportunity for questioning and enrichment for all those who are able to take part.
