Universidade Católica promotes debates about the impact of technological and scientific innovations
How can innovations in neuroscience and artificial intelligence impact our life in society? This is the theme for three debates that will take place at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Lisbon, in February.
The debates take place in the framework of the research project "New Humanism at the time of Neurosciences and Artificial Intelligence" (NHNAI), which aims to promote a broad reflection on the implications of innovations in neuroscience and artificial intelligence for life in society.
In a first stage of this project, a group of experts from various fields (such as Philosophy, Theology, and Psychology) and a group of members of society identified ethical and humanistic issues arising from the latest technological and scientific innovations for three specific areas: education, health, and democracy.
In February, in sessions open to the public, questions such as "Which educational functions are inherently human?", "How can we reconcile the use of artificial intelligence in health contexts with the humanisation of healthcare?" or "How can artificial intelligence be used for the common good?", among others, will be discussed.
NHNAI is a project of the University of Lyon, with the support of the International Federation of Catholic Universities, and with the participation of eight institutions from different continents, including UCP, through CRC-W – Católica Research Centre for Psychological Family and Social Wellbeing.
To participate in the debates "Innovations in neuroscience and artificial intelligence: What implications for our life in society?", contact Professor Bárbara Nazaré (barbara.nazare@ucp.pt), researcher of this project.
