Universidade Católica debates "Sustainable Development in Action" at the 6th Annual CESOP-Local Seminar

The Centre for Studies and Opinion Polls (CESOP) of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa promotes the VI Annual CESOP-Local Seminar for Sustainable Development on July 12.

Dedicated to the theme "Sustainable Development in Action: Accelerating local impact with Research to Local Actors", this year's edition aims to highlight the importance of the cooperation of the societal fabric and research in sustaining integrated governance in favour of a rapid and unceasing pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The seminar will bring together several reference entities and personalities linked to resonant initiatives at a national level with international echo, in the area of applied research at the service of the development of communities and cities.

At this event, the first implementation and adaptation of the Global Urban Monitoring Framework (UMF) in Portugal will be presented, in partnership with UN-Habitat and Mafra City Council within the framework of the recently created SDG Cities Portuguese Lab - Lusophone Initiative, promoted by CESOP and four Portuguese municipalities with the United Nations. The UMF is part of the UN Global Strategy to accelerate the necessary change and the SDGs at the local level, aiming to aggregate more than two thousand cities around the world. The UMF presents itself as a tool for monitoring local sustainable development based on guiding documents such as the 2030 Agenda and the New Urban Agenda, allowing the comparability of cities and the possibility of more in-depth policy analysis.

The seminar includes the participation of the Permanent Representation of Portugal to the Nations led by Ambassador Rui Macieira and a Round Table on "Turning knowledge into action", with the participation of the Vice Mayor of Porto, Filipe Araújo, and representatives of CESOP-Local SDG Observatory, INSURE. Hub and CEPCEP (Centre for the Study of Portuguese-Speaking Peoples and Cultures).

This will be an opportunity to highlight, along with the Municipal Sustainability Index, the famous CESOP-Local label, the "Sustainability & Local Leadership" Training Programme that Católica will launch in September - a Postgraduate Degree aimed at Mayors and Senior Management of Legislative Bodies.
