Seniors and volunteers share experiences at the Católica Library
On June 7, the João Paulo II University Library (BUJPII) of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) was visited by a group of 12 participants and volunteers from the Par e Passo Project, organized by Cáritas Diocesana de Lisboa. This initiative is part of UCP's Social Responsibility strategy, which aims to strengthen close relations between partner social organizations and the University.
The visit was led by Ana Folque, Deputy Director of BUJPII, and João Zambujo de Oliveira, Archivist at BUJPII. During the event, professional experience was shared and visitors had the opportunity to learn about the dynamics of a university library. In addition, it provided moments of conviviality and sharing of life paths and emotions, creating a strong group dynamic, which culminated in a guided tour of the "Macau em Contrastes" exhibition and a snack that cemented links and created great complicity among the participants.
Suzana Vila Branco, coordinator of the Par e Passo Project, shared the positive feedback from the participants: "They all said they really enjoyed it. It was great to get out of the usual place, but also because of the attentive way we were received and the things we saw and learned". This appreciation reflects the success of the initiative in providing an enriching and welcoming experience for visitors.
The Par e Passo Project aims to combat the unwanted loneliness and social isolation of the senior population. Through a transformative approach, it seeks to create more cohesive, inclusive and dynamic communities, promoting relationships of affection and dignity between seniors, volunteers and the community in general. The project's activities include outings, support in the daily lives of seniors and themed workshops, as well as a telephone support and listening line open to seniors throughout the diocese.
The visit to BUJPII is a concrete example of how UCP implements its social responsibility, promoting the integration and well-being of local communities through collaboration with social organizations. Events like this not only enrich the visitors' experience, but also strengthen the ties between the university and society, contributing to a more inclusive and supportive community.
