Institute for Political Studies launches collection dedicated to best dissertations and theses
The Institute for Political Studies has just launched a series of publications dedicated to Dissertations and Theses within the IEP collection of UCP Press. The book "Teoria Política de Winston Churchill: Duas Mudanças de Partido e o Problema da Consistência Política", by Filipa do Amparo, inaugurates this new collection.
Presented at Universidade Católica Portuguesa on May 3, Filipa do Amparo's work discusses "the enormous contribution that Winston Churchill made to political theory," analyzing the concepts of "party change and political consistency," the book's synopsis states.
Besides the author, the session was moderated by João Pereira Coutinho, and chaired by the Director of IEP, João Carlos Espada, who was also the supervisor of the dissertation that led to the book and author of the respective preface, in which he highlighted:
"In studying the subject of Winston Churchill's Political Theory, the author detects and accurately describes a political positioning that is clearly distinctive of British political culture (or, as Churchill liked to say, of the English-speaking peoples): a pluralistic and reformist political culture, founded on dialogue and respectful competition between at least two rival parliamentary parties, intrinsically alien, not to say overwhelmingly hostile, to the revolutionary and counterrevolutionary theories of Communism and National Socialism - which, unfortunately, gained some favor on the European continent. "
This book inaugurates the series where the IEP will publish the best doctoral theses and master's dissertations of its students.
