Exhibition “Trono de Maria, Lugar de Sabedoria”

Tuesday, November 08, 2022 - 14:00

Galeria Fundação Amélia de Mello | UCP | Lisboa-Sede

“Trono de Maria, Lugar de Sabedoria” is the exhibition which will be open to the public from 8 November at the Amélia de Mello Foundation Gallery at the headquarters of Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

As part of the Culture@Católica programme, coordinated by Paulo Campos Pinto, the exhibition presents the iconographic theme of the Virgin Mary, Sedes Sapientiae, invocation of the chapel on the Católica campus and inspiring motto of Catholic universities.

The throne of Solomon, to whom God granted the exceptional gift of wisdom, inspires the representation of the Virgin with the Child, in majesty. The Virgin is the throne on which the Child, Son of God and source of wisdom, sits. Mary's role is prolonged in her maternal role as interpreter and in her presence with the apostles who receive the gift of tongues at Pentecost.

In contemporary times, with the library and the university as references, the acquisition of knowledge, the basis of wisdom, is an instrument for overcoming, in particular, the condition of women.

“Trono de Maria, Lugar de Sabedoria” is curated by Maria Isabel Roque, who is also responsible for the museological project of the exhibition.

The exhibition is open to the public on weekdays between 2pm and 5pm between November and 21st March 2023.
